About Us
Driving Miss Daisy offers so much more than driving to so many more people than just seniors. What they really provide is peace of mind.
Kathy Doornenbal launched Driving Miss Daisy in Peterborough five years ago shortly after moving here from Calgary. With 45 franchises in western Canada she quickly recognized the need here in Canada’s most senior city. As a PSW (personal support worker) she understood that those of any age with compromised vision, mobility or health often become socially isolated. Offering “through the door” assistance from inside the home right in to an appointment or the grocery store and back into the comfort of home is a personalized daily living assistance that gives respite to family and caregivers.
“We recently added another vehicle as the medical community and people in general continue to realize the value and comfort in the personalized services we offer,” said Doornenbal. “Many of our clients are not comfortable or even able to take traditional transportation and family members can only do so much.”
Driving Miss Daisy is fully licensed and insured both in and out of the vehicle. All of their caregivers have police security clearance, clean driving records and are all trained in first aid and CPR.
“We nurture strong relationships with our clients, caregivers and families and are often the liaison between the client and family who may live elsewhere,” said Doornenbal. “That’s the most rewarding part of our business is knowing that we make a difference in what can be difficult situations.”
Service is customized to the needs of each client whether it be assistance to the airport, medical appointments, shopping or a social function.
“Our oldest client is 94 and our youngest is an 8 year old autistic boy,” said Doornenbal. “We’re there for anyone who needs a little extra help...and hugs are free,” she said with a smile.

“Thank you for being such an important part of our lives over the past year. I really appreciate the times you called me and let me know how my mom was doing. You are an exceptionally caring and compassionate person and have been a key member of our Care Team.
